Every 4-year old with their hands on the TV remote knows that technology empowers and gives you access to abilities that were previously unthinkable. For example, watching a nonstop toy unboxing video channel.
But evolving the science and technology idea into a product is easy to say and very hard to do. Just ask the guy who invented fire.
In the 1981 movie Quest for Fire (it's not on Netflix), we see both its potential and fragility, when a group of Neanderthals struggles to keep a small ember burning while moving across a cold, bleak landscape.
If and when it goes out, their ability to survive goes out with it. No more warm chow, dry feet or instilling the fear of god into predators.
So along came the team that took the idea of creating ember with the "hand-drill technique", and MVP-ed it into a product called fire.
And then (like with every modern technology product) they did a scale up phase to make it mobile and grow the user base and evolve. It worked and that's why today we have easy access to lighters, matches or rescue flares.
Joining Next Round are 8 Slovenian tech startups, who managed to turn their ember into the fire.
We'll showcase their unique and intriguing formulas during a walk through of the Slovenian Startup & Scaleup Village.
They're MESI, EFOS, Simarine, Elaphe, Borza terjatev / Invoice Exchange, Labena, 3Dsurvey, and Xlab.
And many of the things they do is just as revolutionary as a fire back in its day.
From the ultimate battery monitoring system, plug-and-play solutions for better work in professional healthcare, and online peer-to-peer finance platform for businesses to the next-gen automotive powertrain solutions, environment, and food safety technologies, data acquisition systems, and tracking technologies.
